Is it worth using cloth nappies?
A baby can use up to 2500 disposable nappies in their first year of life – that’s a huge amount a landfill, just in nappies. Using Modern cloth nappies will also save you money in the long run – once you have your nappy kit, liners and pails, you’re all set.
How many cloth nappies will I need?
You may wish to start with just 1 or 2 cloth nappies initially. This will give you the chance to try the reusable nappy option, and be happy that it is the right decision for you and your baby. As modern cloth nappies are available to purchase individually, you can easily accumulate your supply over time. For full time cloth nappy use, you will need to have approx. 24-30 nappies. A baby will usually require around 6 nappy changes per day.
How to wash cloth nappies
Reusable cloth and swim nappies need to be washed with 2-3 days of being used. More frequently if you have a limited supply. Soaking your cloth nappies will reduce their life span so its best to keep them in a dry pail until ready to wash. Use a mild detergent not containing bleach and dry your nappies in the sun. Nappy liners can generally be tumble dried but it is best to check and follow the cleaning instructions by your chosen brand.
How do swim nappies work?
A reusable swim nappy replaces the need for a disposable swim nappy when at a swimming pool or beach. Swim nappies feature adjustable waist snaps and snug elastic leg bands to ensure any solids stay within the confines of the nappy.
