What skills do puzzles teach children?

What age can kids do puzzles?

From the time your baby s interested in play and can grasp items in their hands, you can start to introduce age appropriate puzzles for babies. Stacking wooden toys that connect together or thread onto a pole is a great starting point before moving to a colour sorting puzzle where the primary objective is to match the colour on the puzzle board with the puzzle piece.

Toddlers benefit greatly from floor puzzles in a theme of interest. Puzzles will help expand your toddlers concentration level and give them a great sense of achievement when completing the puzzle – don’t forget to then play a game of ‘can you find?’ with the items in the puzzle picture which will help your toddler develop colour recognition and expand their vocabulary – this is also a great game to play when reading a children’s book to your toddler. Introducing colouring activities to your toddler’s learning play is another fantastic way of developing colour recognition.
